<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica; font-size: 12px; line-height: 21px;">There once lived a boy who was nicknamed as Poppy..</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 21px;">He hated kids' games, and saw no fun in hopping.</span></span></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 21px;">He hated to see other children behave:</span></span></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 21px;">Here's the story of how Jan met the strange little Poppy</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 21px;">Who was watching with hatred some grasshopper hopping.</span></span></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 21px;">murmured Poppy. His voice made the grasshopper hide.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 21px;"><b>"</b><i><b>How amazing it is </b>to be big-eyed and green</i>",</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 21px;">whispered Jan with excitement, watching the scene.</span></span><br />
<span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Helvetica;"><span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 21px;"><br />
</span></span><br />

In the current article the author speaks at length about a burning issue of all times which is a problem of discrimination. It is the descrimination against men, to be precise, that is touched upon by the author who lays stress on the oppression of inviolability as well as indispensibility of a person's private space.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">The article opens in a brief description of the way of living in a society of former USSR when people even though were used to being deprived of their rights were still longing to get appartments of their own, so that they could feel safe in a so-called "personal space" of theirs. Afterwards the author moves on to defining the term <span style="background-color: #cfe2f3;">"<b>personal space</b>"</span> in odrer to provide the readers with the information necessary to get involved in further reading. He difines the term-in-question as <span style="background-color: #cfe2f3;">a part of a territory that "belongs" to one definite owner and essentially enables one to stay there on one's own with no fear of a suddent intrusion of "aliens".</span> According to the author's point of view, it is not only the chattels to be termed as a private or personal space, but clothes even. To put it in shorter words, one must not trespass on anyone's private zone without asking in advance.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJqpawYZ1NAGgmgo8RDuW6maCKjkK7UyzzqX4-flp0sXjnt1Rt2fTTyZg6_UyavKBk6k7cqrwo4sCs6yIIzsUwYFQVPuLKE0A5UI5803yErJuOcd1CFI5xqAp8LNG3BCyJk9uCKQ74BP2N/s1600/personal_space+%25281%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="248" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJqpawYZ1NAGgmgo8RDuW6maCKjkK7UyzzqX4-flp0sXjnt1Rt2fTTyZg6_UyavKBk6k7cqrwo4sCs6yIIzsUwYFQVPuLKE0A5UI5803yErJuOcd1CFI5xqAp8LNG3BCyJk9uCKQ74BP2N/s320/personal_space+%25281%2529.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Further on the author reminds his readers of some historic examples of the oppression of people's rights for their intimate areas. He starts with describing different attidute towards some areas of men-women's employment, goes on giving examples of high fences around people's houses, and ends up with the issue of public baths. The author claims that these aspects led to a resolution to create segregated lavatory rooms, single-sex saunas and changing-rooms, which depicted the progress towards equal rights in the USSR.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;">However, in the next passage the author points out the idea that all those restrictions placed were actually to guard women, rather than men. Holding on to the matter of man's rights, the author cites an example of "lovely" <b style="background-color: #cfe2f3;">female janitors and maids occuring in men's toilets or baths with men inside</b>! Similar situation can hardly take place in a ladies' WC. To contine the author tells a story of an American woman winning a right to use a gents' WC, whilst there's hardly any man to gain such a right. Being put under arrest is what he is more likely to achieve even if seen near the ladies' refreshroom, since it's against the law in the US. The author gives more examples, such as <span style="background-color: #cfe2f3;">female teachers entering boys toilets in search of smokers,</span> f<span style="background-color: #cfe2f3;">emale doctors examining 18-year-old future soldiers and so on</span>. These examples lay stress on the ideas of the article.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">The author draws conclusion by saying that the only way to advance the case of equal rights for a safe personal space is <span style="background-color: #cfe2f3;">to teach boys just as well as girls to value their intimacy</span>. So, to sum up the ideas mentioned I personally agree that the issue of men's deprivation of private place without a shadow of doubt is a subject for discussion. Yet, I still see no sence in putting this idea into such a exaggerated manner as the author did. I'm writing to inform you about a rather exciting piece of news - your crazy wee teacher alyona has created a new blog <b><a href="http://weeteacher.edublogs.org/" target="_blank">Teach - taught - taught </a></b>via Edublogs.org (a free educational platform).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWCPhIouHB7Gd_NqHq16jMvi4a5D0HXiTv7VMq_BaLiZPeRxQdo50LalDL6rCKWRVq5YWUayAvT4jSnjKpZ6WWhjMOtwlHDrX9uIsvCXKAyJHd65FYJm3d6nEvDjaNnYIZ_BS_vV6Qpb8n/s1600/effective-blog-posts-sign.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="186" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWCPhIouHB7Gd_NqHq16jMvi4a5D0HXiTv7VMq_BaLiZPeRxQdo50LalDL6rCKWRVq5YWUayAvT4jSnjKpZ6WWhjMOtwlHDrX9uIsvCXKAyJHd65FYJm3d6nEvDjaNnYIZ_BS_vV6Qpb8n/s320/effective-blog-posts-sign.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><span style="background-color: white; color: #0b5394;">What will the blog be about?</span></b></div>The blog is to be dedicated to teaching English as a Foreign Language. If you teach, or used to teach, or only plans on becoming a teacher, then the blog is for you!<br />
These are some of the topics I would like to cover in the blog:<br />
<br />
<ul style="text-align: left;"><li><b>Reflecting</b> upon our teaching experience (both successful or a complete failure)</li>
<li><b>Discussing</b> the DOs and DON'Ts in classroom</li>
<li><b>Learning</b> the classroom cliches (e.g. <a href="http://weeteacher.edublogs.org/2012/03/13/cliches-to-start-lessons/" target="_blank">Cliches to Start a Lesson</a>)</li>
<li><b>Sharing</b> tips on how to be a good EFL teacher</li>
<li><b>Speculating</b> about ways to motivate stidents</li>
<li><b>Discovering</b> traditional and state-of-art methods and technologies in teaching, etc.</li>
</ul><div>If you have more ideas on what you personally would like to find on the Blog, we are open to your suggestions and propositions!</div><div><br />

<span style="color: #6aa84f;"><br />
</span><br />
<b><span style="color: #6aa84f;">Say Yes or No to the following statements:</span></b><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">1) I seldom turn my computer off.</div><div style="text-align: left;">2) I cover myself with anti-mosquito sprays every time I go camping / fishing/ to the forest.</div><div style="text-align: left;">3) I throw rubbish in plastic bags.</div><div style="text-align: left;">4) I never check if the products I buy are eco-friendly.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">If you said "yes" to most of the statements, then you are far from being green. </div><div style="text-align: left;">Said "no" to all of the above? Well, my congratualations! You seem to be as green as a X-mas tree!</div><div style="text-align: left;">But do not preach your naighbour in case he's greener than you are! Let's just read this first (taken from an article by <a href="http://www.uwex.edu/CES/cced/downtowns/ltb/lets/LTB1106.pdf" target="_blank">Bill Ryan</a>)</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><b>...traditional consumer values. These include:</b><br />
· <b><span style="color: #a64d79;">Price</span></b> - Few will pay extra for greener products<br />
· <span style="color: #a64d79;"><b>Quality</b></span> - Many think green products will be less<br />
effective than existing brands<br />
· <b><span style="color: #a64d79;">Convenience </span></b>– only minimal inconvenience will be<br />
tolerated by consumers of green products<br />
· <b><span style="color: #a64d79;">Availability</span></b> – very few customers will go out of their<br />
way to purchase green products<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><b><span style="color: #38761d;">So, who are Green consumers? Are you one of them? </span></b></div><div style="text-align: left;">Here are severeal more links for you to study so that to get inspired to answer the question.</div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li><a href="http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_a_'green'_consumer" target="_blank">What's a "Green Consumer"?</a></li>

It's not that I wish to complain more, no. It's all about being confident enough to stand my rights (oh, yes, we DO have consumer protection laws and a good deal of other preservative laws we have no idea about), to complain without filling my speech of displeasure with a good deal of inapropreate <a href="http://engloholics.blogspot.com/2011/04/likes-and-ums-in-our-speech.html" target="_blank">"Ums" and "Errs"</a>, without losing my temper or forgetting completely how to speak proper language! I realise clearly enough that on learning how to complain properly I will probably make my life more diverse and less stressful.<br />

Since it may seem obnoxious of me to post real complaint letters aimed at real people here in this blog I have decided to change the names and addresses mentioned in the letter, so that to avoid causing troubles but provide you with some knowledge on how NOT to complain instead.<br />
To tell you the truth, I have never sent any letter of complaint to the company or organisation I was displeased with, yet if I have, it would be a splendid opportunity to bring some positive alterations to my despleased well-being.<br />
<br />
Here's my story put into a badly worded complaint letter. Shall we discuss it later on?<br />

<br />
<b>To encourage a discussion I proppose you answer these questions:</b><br />
<br />
<ul style="text-align: left;"><li>What is the general atmosphere of the letter?</li>
<li>Does it describe the problem clearly enough?</li>
<li>Are all the advised structural parts of the letter presented in it?</li>
<li>How is it possible to be rewritten? What would you change?</li>
<li>Is there anything you woud leave as it is?</li>
<li>What cliches of polite addressing/complaing could be found? </li>
</ul><br />
Yours,<br />
the Bad Complainer<br />

</tbody></table>If I ran a mall, I would definitely try to make it the best mall one could ever imagine! Not as huge as Harrods (London), perhaps, or West Edmonton Mall (Japan), for I would prefer it to be a shopping centre not a sight for tourists with that avalanche of ridiculous attractions to entertain the visitors!<br />
<br />
And have YOU ever thought of an ideal precinct or a shopping centre? If not, then it's high time for you to do your best and think of a perfect mall! Use your imagination, think of your experience!<br />
<b style="color: #351c75;"><br />
</b><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><b style="color: #351c75;">My Perfect Mall</b></div>To work out a project try and answer these easy questions:<br />
<br />
<ul style="text-align: left;"><li><b>What would the name of your mall be?</b> (Remember: that name is not the least when it comes to dealing with customers)</li>
<li><b>Where would it be located?</b> What would it look like? </li>
<li><b>What would it be specialised on? What would be on offer?</b> (goods on stock and department stores)</li>
<li><b>Who would your clients be?</b> (people it is designed for)</li>
<li><b>What services and facilities would it have?</b></li>
<li><b>What kind of staff would you hire?</b></li>
<li><b>Will your prices be to-the-level? </b></li>
<li><b>What ways of payment would it offer?</b></li>
<li><b>What would the working hours be?</b>, etc.</li>

<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">When I started my first blog on </span><i style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">LiveJournal.ru</i><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"> I should never have thought that it would turn into something huge (and I don't mean huge mammoths or large pandas on junk food). Well, It actually hasn't turned into anything out-of-the-way, yet it HAS provided me with a good deal of new experience and knowledge that eventually turned to be helpful in both taking up a new hobby and teaching. </span></span><br />
<div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><span style="background-color: white;">But let's start from the very beginning!</span><br />
<div><span style="background-color: white;"><br />
</span></div><div><span style="background-color: white;">Some people (let's take my grandmother, for instance! Oh, what lovely honey cakes she bakes!) might well be unaware of what on Earth the word<i> "<b>blog" </b></i>means. Believe it or not, but blogs are everywhere! I'll try and prove it now.</span></div></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><span style="background-color: white;"><br />
</span></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><span style="background-color: white;">Just imagine that your good neighbour has recently created a <b>time machine</b>! "<i>Woohoo</i>", you think, "<i>now that it's been created, I can go to the future to check if I get wrinkled in 30 years without applying to <a href="http://engloholics.blogspot.com/2011/11/plastic-surgery-beauty.html"><b>plastic surgery</b></a></i>". But take it easy, my friend, we are to travel to the past, not the future, because it was long, long ago that "forefathers of blogs" were run by people. These blogs were known as "<i><b>diaries</b></i>". </span></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><span style="background-color: white;"><br />
</span></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><span style="background-color: white;">Yes, that's exactly what a blog is in general understanding of the term. The only thing that differs a blog from a diary is that the latter one is made <u>for others read it</u> on the Web, whilst the first one is <u>written to be never revealed out of the locked drawer</u> in your bed table.</span></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><span style="background-color: white;"><br />
</span></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><span style="background-color: white;">But how does blogging correlate with teaching a language? Oh, there's a great connection in between. </span></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><b style="background-color: white;"><br />
</b></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><span style="background-color: white;"><b>First of all</b>, blogs are being run all over the Globe by people of all races and nationalities, of various views and interests. So, there's always a possibility you can once pop into a wonderful blog of some English-Speaking person on the topic you (or your students) are extremely interested in!</span></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><span style="background-color: white;"><br />
</span></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><span style="background-color: white;"><b>Secondy</b>, blogging or at least reading blogs is much fun for both the reader and the writer, since some (not all..) bloggers appear to be talented writers, gifted interactors or, at least, nice people to say an akwardly cute "Hey there!" to. </span></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><span style="background-color: white;"><br />
</span></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><span style="background-color: white;">And the <b>third reason </b>is that when a teacher starts blogging for whatever reasons or purposes one follows, he or she reveals his/her personality which is always good for a teacher (we love revealing... I mean.. "boasting" of our knowledge to pupils, right?)</span></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><span style="background-color: white;"><br />
</span></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><span style="background-color: white;">I am not to dwell on the subject of blogging right now, for am planning to post an article of major <b><i>pros and cons of blogging</i></b> for teaching purposes a bit later.</span></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><span style="background-color: white;"><br />
</span></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><span style="background-color: white;">What I like in blogging is <b>communication, feedback </b>and<b> self-development </b>(you always have to check your articles more or less properly before posting them on the blog you're running (the same could be said about students, for your blog could be run by them, too) - you don't want your students to find more mistakes in your posts than are made by them in their essays, do you?).</span></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><span style="background-color: white;"><br />
</span></div><div style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><span style="background-color: white;">If this post left you even more puzzled than you were beforehand, do not hesistate to ask any question disturbing you! On the other hand, they tend to be extremly <i>bossy</i> and <i>reproaching</i> which makes them unbearable at times, for they enjoy telling others what to do!</div><div><br /></div><div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHzd4GT3dHJ40X5iUpaz1WNO7_FnOjnfcLkTOozic7Rm833oNNPFeVfvR3yRAqioGl37ajUS3VGVyECYA-YpgX3tV2e3Vjhwjm45RAi6aS8uv7cVQaiZpv0Lky1krQvkMQExZJLFmue2Ep/s320/remote_image20110121-4932-cv6xfk-0.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5672299415992935698" style="float: left; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 203px; " /></div><div>However, the majority of them are way too s<i>elf-centered</i>. They are <i>determined</i> to do what they plan and are ready to stand their ground or even argue with those who stand on their way, if necessary. Still, when it comes to their work, they are <i>prudent</i> and <i>foreseeing</i>, as well.</div><div><div>They are not much<i> talkative</i> and prefer to keep their feelings unshown to the others. What's more, they can be rather <i>mean</i> in terms of sharing things or spending money. Just think of <b>Angelina Jolie </b>with her full lips and a number of charity compaigns! To make the image clear, think of <b>Stallone</b>! Got it now? Good. So, Stallone-style-lipped people are said to be very <i>generous</i>! They would share their one and only T-shirt with you or take a lawn for you in a bank, with no doubt!</div><div>They are <i>highly intelligen</i>t and <i>gifted</i> and can understand sophisticated things easily. But it doesnt't make them less <i>sensitive</i>... Can you believe that? Is there anyone who saw Stallone crying at <b><i>Titanic </i></b>or while nursing a <b><a href="http://engloholics.blogspot.com/2011/03/what-bonny-wee-bairn.html">wee</a> </b>kitten with a sore leg?</div><div><br /></div><div>There's a great variaty of ways to learn a person's character and manners. I did not mean to say I am swearing profusely! Yet, the languages I speak, both native and foreign, are in a way affected by so-called "non-words", or "fillers".<div>I have realised that whenever I chat with my Skype friends, or have a talk with my students or collegues, I do fill my speech with those silly "<b>Errr</b><i>s</i>" of mine, especially when being puzzled, or "<b>So</b><i>es</i>" when thinking of what to say or do next. What I wanted to say, is that we fail to rememeber that these non-words make our speech rather unpleasant to listen to.</div><div><br /></div><div>Of course, it is fairly appropriate to Umm and Uhh when one is overwhelemed with excitement, which makes it quite hard to find a proper way to word one's ideas! But as soon as one is becoming "kinda" addicted to "you knows" and "you sees" it makes me feel worried about the future of the language.</div><div><br /></div><div>But how can we avoid it? And can we? With no doubt, we can! It will never do to let "<b>well</b><i>s</i>" and "<b>Aww</b><i>s</i>" rule the world!</div><div><br /></div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3Xm_leV_PgTjjAxEGbTdRSFgAGbRvMVmy5vKrFJYiq88VfKQqoDh5P4XZXUggV99PJZkFicGkRoj-pfAP6nIXEYwVLNaRDxFv2G0mm8mzh3KVVjNKoLpJfNSwSWemhnpQvBAicbDIY-o-/s320/BadHabits_FillerWords.jpg" style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 157px;" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5614411460135515394" /><div><br /></div><div>This is my list of simple tips on <b><span class="Apple-style-span">"How not to Umm"</span></b>:</div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>1. Speak more. </b>Do not be afraid of putting your ideas into words. <span class="Apple-style-span"><b><i>Filler-words are like dogs: the more scared of them you are, the greater number of them appear to be wishing to atack you when you least expect it.</i></b></span></div><div><br /></div><div><b>2. Read more.</b> Better read classics, e.g. Jane Austin's novels or short stories of O'Henry's. I will never do you bad anyway.</div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>3. Make notes when reading.</b> I usually keep a pencil at hand when reading. At noticing some nice grand word to use I immediately underline it or write it out. Either words or word phrases or sentences even would do. For example, I have recently read a book entitled as "Stardust" and found a good deal of interesting phrases:</div><div><ul><li><i>...she slept on, unaware how close she had come to her doom, nor <b>how slim a margin</b> she had escaped it.</i></li><li><i>..she sang so quitely he could hear <b>next to nothing</b> at all..</i></li></ul><b>4. Watch less silly comedy films.</b> They seem to embrace the whole world of swear words alongside with filler words. But keep on watching good, funny films either with or without subtitles! Remember, any film can help you if you really want the help. Just be attentive, pick out words, intonation and even gestures - all these tings might serve you good some time!</div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>5. Just controll yourself, that's all.</b> As soon as you feel like using a filler, try to paraphrase it with some ther word you know.</div><div><br /><div>Believe it or not, but following these tips will never make you hesitate less in your speech! Still, even if it doesn't help you avoid fillers in your speech, it might at least be a good way to enlarge your vocabulary!</div></div><div><br /></div><div><b><i>And do you think that using filler-words in speech, either oral or written, is a problem?</i></b></div><div><b><i><br /></i></b></div><div><b><i>What are your fillers?</i></b></div><div><b><i><br /></i></b></div><div><b><i>Do you use them often?</i></b></div><div><br /></div><div><div><div><div><div><br /></div></div></div></div></div>Wee Teacherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03821246341213002664noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7192325372478989443.post-27860330440589452812011-05-26T17:24:00.004+06:002011-06-07T23:26:22.595+06:00The strange thing called Life!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9jjhCkhvgyDD_VtyUVdZLTwqJl2wGiIe8uTB5m4rdcd3k3bF9Q9JYs2FIHoTJH4aHEnrG9iSjOP_b8-nvqhPaZ7kWRCK_yuu86sWeV9EWPFWMdds3zLH-se4H0njJbUbTgNH-__0T82U/s1600/Natures+Beauty.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9jjhCkhvgyDD_VtyUVdZLTwqJl2wGiIe8uTB5m4rdcd3k3bF9Q9JYs2FIHoTJH4aHEnrG9iSjOP_b8-nvqhPaZ7kWRCK_yuu86sWeV9EWPFWMdds3zLH-se4H0njJbUbTgNH-__0T82U/s320/Natures+Beauty.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610984617223330754" /></a><br />What a strange thing this Life is! It’s so different for everyone; for every single soul in this world. There are thousands who are born in a day in certain parts of this world and bring happiness in the respective families and the same day itself, thousands others who lose their lives. Some celebrate the birth of a new member in their family yet others mourn over the tragic loss in the family. The worst part is, when you have to step in and congratulate one of your cousins/friends for arrival of a new born or over his/her fantastic performance in the exams or some other great news and participate in the celebrations and the second moment you need to sympathize with some other cousin/friend who is losing his/her loved one, due to some fatal disease/ accident or for some other sad news. Over and above, you have to deal with strange events erupting in your own life. I am right here; right in the middle of complete bewilderment as to how I should be reacting while balancing my mood considering my own current status. Struggling with the challenges that life has thrown at me; wondering why misery and achievement have to co-exist. Why can’t LIFE be the same for everyone? Why can’t it be full of love and fun moments all the time? Why is Life the way it is? Alas! There’s no answer and there will never be!Parul Khannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08302698189153023450noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7192325372478989443.post-89609688670378560852011-04-22T16:17:00.004+06:002011-04-22T17:33:56.421+06:00"Pink glasses"<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hFg1G5RkMDs/TbFYKxR918I/AAAAAAAAAA4/xt06gYaaMg4/s1600/%25D0%259D%25D0%25BE%25D0%25B2%25D1%258B%25D0%25B9%2B%25D1%2580%25D0%25B8%25D1%2581%25D1%2583%25D0%25BD%25D0%25BE%25D0%25BA.png"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 251px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 151px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598352753848866754" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hFg1G5RkMDs/TbFYKxR918I/AAAAAAAAAA4/xt06gYaaMg4/s320/%25D0%259D%25D0%25BE%25D0%25B2%25D1%258B%25D0%25B9%2B%25D1%2580%25D0%25B8%25D1%2581%25D1%2583%25D0%25BD%25D0%25BE%25D0%25BA.png" /></a><br /><br /><div>A widespread phrase "pink glasses" has become current a long time ago not only for psychologists and literary critics, but also in everyday life. But sometimes, using the phrase “to look through pink glasses” in speech, not everyone understands its value. Yes, it is very good to have pink glasses in a combination to other accessories of female clothes. But in this case it is a problem of a phraseological unit that has certain lexical value.</div><div><br />So, how do dictionaries define the given combination of words? For example, we find in Ushakov's dictionary: "pink glasses" — the phraseological unit meaning illusory, naive perception of an objective reality, as a rule, imposed any ideology.<br />Probably this idiom has come to us from English language? In English it sounds like “to look at smth through rose-colored glasses”, maybe, our “to look at something through pink glasses” is taken from a foreign language?</div><div><br />Pink dreams - to look at everything through pink glasses or to see all in pink color or light (to idealize everything not to notice lacks).<br />Expression «he wears pink glasses» is usually applied to the person when it is meant that the mentioned person doesn't wish to notice negative factors in the actions, the surrounding validity and etc.</div><div><br />In the Cambridge dictionary of idioms we find “rose-colored glasses” or “rose-tinted glasses” and it is described in the following way: ”If someone thinks about something or looks at something through pink glasses, he considers it as more pleasant, than it actually is“. This expression is characteristic for the British, Australian and American variants of English language.</div><div><br />German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860) mentioned it in “worldly wisdom Aphorisms”: ”… those who see everything in black color and is ready to the worst, are mistaken less often in the calculations, than people who look at life through pink glasses“.<br />In Russian literature - one of the first mentions of this expression – we find in Vitaly Bianki's fairy tales about animals. In a fairy tale the hare who has found pink glasses and for some time perceived world in very optimistic light. It continued till he met a wolf.<br />If to address to psychology of color and the characteristic of pink color the use of the given phrase as idealized representation of the validity becomes clear.</div><div><br />Pink color is the color of romanticism and optimism. It can seem that it is preferred by people who are not too responsible, who can shift the duties on shoulders of others … Pink color is a mix of red and white. There is a force, stability, and ease, winged sentiments in it. Courage, and tenderness, love - not with the concrete person but with life. Pink not only provokes affability, but also lowers malignancy and aggression. Pink color is passive, it calms and softens emotions.<br />Color therapy recommends pink to people who can hardly calm down. Whatever heavy your day is, when you see pink color, you won't manage to keep aggression.</div><div><br />Pink is the most passive of all colors, it provokes affability and reduces aggression, both internal, and external.</div><div>And there are "the pink glasses", allowing to see the world with a happy children's infantile sight. </div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7192325372478989443.post-72990141956103059232011-04-21T20:53:00.006+06:002011-04-21T23:31:16.757+06:00Break a Leg!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJLsoHEqZRDlMQ_ZMS2ufmnGnsiA_F_F0-dwykCgmeWvQdU8l_5ObMHTb2nQxXqgSRBwp3scIvZ7ZdhJX_AG-RX5hX18s10z4Ymw6336MgTD5prnhIGS0IYWjzs5RUxsYDo6FC_nYnYt_i/s1600/57832.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 205px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJLsoHEqZRDlMQ_ZMS2ufmnGnsiA_F_F0-dwykCgmeWvQdU8l_5ObMHTb2nQxXqgSRBwp3scIvZ7ZdhJX_AG-RX5hX18s10z4Ymw6336MgTD5prnhIGS0IYWjzs5RUxsYDo6FC_nYnYt_i/s320/57832.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598084700471318514" /></a><br /><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language:EN-US">Two young track-and-field athletes, Jim and Frank, are having a talk before the run of Jim’s: “You know, I wish you all the best today, Jim! It sounds queer, yet <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal">Break a leg!</i></b> is not said to mock the athlete, but to REALLY support him and <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight:normal">wish him good luck</b>.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language:EN-US">It’s interesting to know that the phrase has a theatrical origin. Why, the theatre is notoriously superstitious. Therefore it is believed that wishing “good luck” to your colleagues is deemed bad luck, a taboo to say. We always feel something. It can be negative or positive. It can be a very strong feeling or can be not. We can not always express them. However, they are in us.<br />
<div align="justify">Different people define emotions in different ways. Some make a distinction between emotions and feelings saying that a feeling is the response part of the emotion and that an emotion includes the situation or experience, the interpretation, the perception, and the response or feeling related to the experience of a particular situation.</div><div align="justify">Emotions control your thinking, behavior and actions. Emotions affect your physical bodies as much, as your body affects your feelings and thinking. People who ignore their emotions, make themselves feel uncomfortable. Emotions that are not felt and released but buried within the body can cause serious illnesses. Negative emotions such as fear, anxiety, negativity, frustration and depression cause chemical reactions in your body that are very different from the chemicals released when you feel positive emotions such as feeling happy, content, loved, accepted. </div><div align="justify">You cannot change or control your emotions. You can learn how to be with them, live peacefully with them, releasing them but you can never control them. The more anyone tries to control their emotions, the more they resist control, and the more frightened people eventually become at what is seen to be a “loss of emotional control”. People feel uncomfortable with those who express strong emotions. We are taught to hide our emotions, to be ashamed of them or to be afraid of them. We are born with them and must live with them. This means learning how to know them, be with them, and release them.</div><div align="justify">People should live in peace with their emotions...</div></div>Irishkahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02709727962279703836noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7192325372478989443.post-65772546515835664852011-04-16T20:52:00.004+06:002011-09-07T01:52:12.231+06:00What a Bonny Wee Bairn<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4oH9GNMzE3vC8_iEIunlCUogqkueplcHmUGJ3gM9CAqQNX5JF8xsqNoHFzm-NUh17aG7Q9qWF_p3BXCWPppKS5HtmOpUZ1sPf_BQjAwQhaCy9_fslCuTuFq1HfKPxcdrnkxQQT6Bml-UN/s1600/img1240009186bonny-wee-bairn.png" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 225px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4oH9GNMzE3vC8_iEIunlCUogqkueplcHmUGJ3gM9CAqQNX5JF8xsqNoHFzm-NUh17aG7Q9qWF_p3BXCWPppKS5HtmOpUZ1sPf_BQjAwQhaCy9_fslCuTuFq1HfKPxcdrnkxQQT6Bml-UN/s320/img1240009186bonny-wee-bairn.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596265610559921922" /></a><br />Picture by <a href="http://www.meehancartoons.com/blog_messages.html?bb_id=6&bbmid=245">Kieran Meehan</a>.<div><div><b><br /></b><div>If you didn't uderstand a slightest thing in the whole joke, there's no need to feel devastated, for it does not mean you have failed in your English (which was actually Scottish)! An <b>old lady</b> talking to a <b>young lady </b>with a little <b>baby</b> in a pram. Three characters in total. So, who is HE in the talk of an auld (=<i>old</i>) lady? Presumably, a baby! Exactly! </div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>Step 3.</b></div><div>The auld woman is amused by the wee bairn, yet she sorrowfully says <b><i>he'll soon be sloating about street corners</i></b>. <div><br />
Is it really an <b><i>International Women's Day</i></b> as we all pronounce it? Or is it just another whim and fancy of the Russian people to get some extra days off work?</div><div><br />
<div>Is it a holiday? A global celebration? A simple calendar day? </div><div><br />
<div>How International the International Women's Day Is? Let's try and find it out.</div><div>Women's Day has started in the early 1900s and is now celebrated annually in all <b>(?)</b> around the world. It is marked on <b>March 8 </b>and is also known as <b><i>International Working Women's Day</i></b> or alternatively as the United Nations Day for Women's Rights and International Piece. </div><div><div style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5581317730250082018" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgENKy99_lmZ1zbqHMTTqUb2oATYdRVPsZ72Cxl321UGka0WOPTcbsR6LlCYlPyAIxhJqcKPS5ccRqtHc2Bn6Wt5HzTSzL0PQD0GG3BzPBt8JxjxG6ZS_53JLEUMrMvhYIlFVBL2IwpT_pI/s320/womens-day.jpg" style="height: 254px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /></div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="text-align: left;">All of the names given have their right to exist, for, originally, the IWD was a socialist event. Yet it somehow turned into a Day for The Praise of Women, well known as the </span><b style="text-align: left;">Universal Day for Cards Sellers' Income Increase</b><span style="text-align: left;"> and </span><b style="text-align: left;">Flower Stores' Best Day of the Year!</b></div></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b><br />
</b></div></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b></b>So it had eventually lost it's primarilly political flavour with the bitter (or sweet, I know not) taste of feminism and is now treated, at least in Russia, mostly as a MUST-GIVE-HER-A-PRESENT day.</div></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;">Though, if you are in any way aknowledged about the origin of the Day you might well know it as a significent reminder of the <b>woman's role in the society.</b></div></div><div>---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------</div><div><i></i></div><blockquote><div><i>How important it is for us to recognise and celebrate our heroes and She-roes </i></div><div style="text-align: right;"><i></i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #333333; font-family: Georgia; font-size: 12px; line-height: 22px;">© Maya Angelou, African American Poet</span><br />
<blockquote></blockquote></div><div></div></blockquote><div><i>---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------</i></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 12px;"></span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 12px;"><b><br />
</b></span></div></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b></b>I am not about to dwell on the subject of the historical background of the 8th of March Day, for you can well read about the history of it <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Women's_Day">here</a>, <a href="http://becauseiamawoman.wordpress.com/2010/03/08/international-womens-day/">there</a> and probably <a href="http://www.un.org/ecosocdev/geninfo/women/womday97.htm">somewhere</a> here, where you can find the answer to <b>What to do on the IWD</b> question?</div></div></div></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;">So, coming back to the question of Internationality of the Women's Day, I am to say it looks like truth. Having Googled for the IWD, I came across quite a number of sites representing mostly <b>American, Canadian,<a href="http://www.travelcraftusa.com/uncategorized/international-womens-day-glamour-and-jazz-around-italy/"> Itallian</a> or Indian </b>women who really do know of the Day. </div></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: justify;"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5581331042594591730" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrxcc-M1ugihvdChLdByE7R1M5vKhYKGbr4pdeMc_RXj-Z8M5fBxantO_y06YWnq7CHfTshIKK8bYTzdWejk5DLBswcL7azlUwIfNvQeMqnkj28L8_CgEMIBeIp96LMDIXHtBpiC2EXtlm/s320/senegalese.jpg" style="height: 320px; width: 241px;" /></div></div><div>There's a rack of documentary videos proving the the fact as well. One of them I found rather amusing, for it is about <b>How They Celebrate it in Russia. </b>Quite fun watching the <a href="http://www.internationalwomensday.com/about.asp">Russians in search for flowers here</a>, especially when you're a Russian yourself.</div><div><br />
</div><div>Who'd have thought women really DO assemble and march the streets on the 8th of March to remind those who might have forgotten about the rights women deserve. No flowers, really. You can find out more at the <a href="http://www.internationalwomensday.com/">official IWD site</a>, where you can be inspired by women's art and stories and learn about the past and future activities on the Day. Rather interesting to know.</div><div><br />
</div><div>There are also loads of</div><div><ol><li><a href="http://www.lukaroski.com/jokes/womensday.asp">Women's Day Jokes</a></li>
<li><a href="http://quotations.about.com/od/womensday/a/Womens-Day-Quotes.htm">Women's Day Quotes</a></li>
<li>Women's Day Cards and Presents (that better Google or Yandex yourself).</li>
</ol><div>The most interesting IWD event I have learnt about wthin my wee research of the subject-in-question is the one about <a href="http://thelichfieldblog.co.uk/2009/04/08/ladies-urged-to-give-up-their-old-bras-for-international-womens-day-in-lichfield/">Giving Up Ladies' Old Bras</a> - a weird must-read really! =))</div></div><div><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">So, this is what I have found out about the Women's Day. </div><div style="text-align: center;">Still, I do congratulate you gorgeous and grumpy ladies on being so gorgeous and so grumpy!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
